Education Programs Intern
Dates: June 16-August 15 
Status: 30 hours per week, in person
Location: WALC Learning Center, offsite class visits required 
Compensation: $15 per hour

General Summary:  

The Education Programs Intern plays a vital role in supporting and executing the effective delivery of ESL services for school-aged children involved in WALC programs. This position is a great opportunity to receive high-quality experience and feedback in ESOL instruction.  

Essential Functions:  

  • Develop and plan lessons/activities for school-aged children twice weekly for Women and Children’s classes (June 16-July 18)
  • Work with WALC staff and volunteers onsite to develop and deliver lessons and fun activities for children of a wide range of ages (4-16 years).  
  • Facilitate document collection, attendance tracking, and other administrative tasks related to the Women and Children program.  
  • Participate in the New Voices New Faces summer program as a teacher. This program runs from July 16-August 15, Monday-Friday  
  • Collaborate with ArtsCore preservice teachers to plan and execute arts-integrated lessons to middle and high school aged students with refugee/immigrant backgrounds.  
  • Take directives from and collaborate with lead teachers onsite to deliver high quality lessons, maintain a safe and respectful environment for all learners, and ensure day-to-day class operations run smoothly.   
  • Facilitate document collection, attendance tracking, and other administrative tasks related to New Voice New Faces 
  • Support Education Programs Coordinator and WALC staff in service delivery/administration as needed  
  • Support WALC’s general education program as needed (e.g. substituting for adult class, assisting in classes/1-1 tutor pairings, teacher meetings)   

A good fit for this role has/is:  

  • Experience and/or comfortability working with school-aged children (ages 5-18)  
  • A background in education-education degree not required 
  • The ability to work collaboratively and independently on projects and programs  
  • Eager to teach and gain experience in education in a variety of settings
