Winnebago Area Literacy Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We have been actively serving our community since 1989, providing quality literacy instruction and programs to hundreds of community members. Our dedicated volunteers have donated thousands of hours of their time to help learners improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Life conditions improve, and families become more self-sufficient and more engaged in our community. Because our learners set their own goals to meet needs unique to them, they are equal partners in designing their learner plans. Our learners are fully engaged from the moment they ask for assistance. Because our teachers and volunteers are fully engaged and use our learner-centered approach, working with our learners is a highly rewarding experience. They consistently report how much richer their lives are because of the work they do at WALC!

Strengthen our diverse community by developing and delivering free learner-centered literacy programs for adults and their families.
WALC is grounded in a Value System in which we believe deeply and with which we strive to uphold in every act and decision we make. An engaged, compassionate and literate community is grounded in equality, mutual respect, and teamwork. We create opportunities for sustained independence by promoting self-worth and fostering family well-being through life-long learning.
