Who We Are: Winnebago Area Literacy Council (WALC) develops and provides free learner-centered adult literacy services since 1989. Based in Oshkosh, WI, designated as a refugee resettlement city, we primarily serve newcomers in the Winnebago area. We currently offer a total of ten different English language learning communities/approximately 150 learners per week. We currently have three different learning sites: ELL classes at downtown Learning Center; Women & Children Classes at St. Andrew Church; as well as workplace literacy classes at Amcor and 4imprint in Oshkosh.
About This Position: WALC is looking for an educator with an ability and desire to develop culturally sensitive curriculum, equitable assessment tools, and socially informed training materials that center our learners’ needs. The Education Programs Coordinator will work collaboratively with other WALC team members and community partners to identify community needs, evaluate, adjust, and expand WALC offerings as needed, offer support to our learning community. The position will be based in person at our downtown Learning Center location and expected to regularly visit and offer support at our different learning sites. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development & Implementation:
- Design, plan, and coordinate educational programs that support the mission of the organization and that are socially and culturally equitable to our learners’ needs.
- Ensure program activities meet the learning objectives and educational standards set by the organization.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of educational programs, including scheduling, logistics, resource management, and classroom observations.
- Train and recruit teachers and tutors, ensuring diverse and inclusive access.
- Regularly evaluate and improve program offerings based on feedback, assessments, and emerging community needs.
- Collaboration & Partnerships:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, local agencies, community organizations, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
- Partner with educators, community leaders, and experts to ensure that programs are relevant, culturally competent, and impactful.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all educational partners, collaborating on curriculum development, resources, and engagement strategies.
- Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Track and assess the effectiveness of programs using data, participant feedback, and other performance metrics.
- Prepare reports on program outcomes and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Conduct regular program evaluations to ensure goals are met and identify areas for growth.
- Budget & Resource Management:
- Assist in the preparation and management of program budgets, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
- Oversee the procurement of program materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Seek out and apply for grants, funding opportunities, and other financial resources to support educational programs.
- Administrative Support:
- Maintain accurate records of program activities, attendance, and outcomes.
- Provide administrative support to the education team, including scheduling meetings, coordinating volunteer efforts, and preparing program materials.
- Assist with grant reporting and compliance documentation as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in leading classrooms/learning communities with diverse learner populations, preferably in the context of adult education and/or ESL instruction.
- Experience working with, teaching and/or developing best practice curriculum for learners with different cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of current trends in socially and culturally equitable curriculum and assessment in the field of adult education.
- Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse groups.
Desired Qualifications:
- Degree in Education
- Experience working with underserved or marginalized populations, especially BIPOC communities
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities in one of the following languages (Spanish, Swahili, HMoob, French, Arabic, Dari, Dinka, or Burmese)

Status: Part time (20-30 hours per week), in person. Some weekends required

About This Position: WALC is looking for a community advocate with an ability and desire to cultivate and maintain relationships with existing and prospective volunteers. The person in this role will be actively recruiting volunteers, working to coordinate several volunteer appreciation events and incentives throughout the year, creating a sense of community among volunteers and working to create a positive volunteer experience. This person must also be highly organized in keeping track of volunteer participation through an internal database and in assisting with the collection of data for grant purposes. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding:
- Develop and execute strategies for recruiting volunteers from diverse backgrounds to meet the needs of the organization.
- Coordinate the application, interview, and selection process for new volunteers.
- Conduct orientations and onboarding sessions for new volunteers, ensuring they understand their roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
- Maintain an updated volunteer database and manage volunteer profiles.
- Training & Support:
- Design and implement training programs to ensure volunteers are well-prepared for their roles and understand the organization’s mission and values.
- Provide ongoing support, guidance, and resources to volunteers, addressing any concerns or issues they may encounter.
- Organize and facilitate periodic training sessions and team-building activities to keep volunteers engaged and informed.
- Offer recognition and appreciation to volunteers through regular communications, awards, or appreciation events.
- Scheduling & Coordination:
- Develop and manage volunteer schedules, ensuring adequate coverage for events, programs, or ongoing needs.
- Communicate with volunteers regarding schedule changes, shifts, and program updates in a timely manner.
- Coordinate volunteer assignments, ensuring they align with their skills, interests, and the needs of the organization.
- Volunteer Engagement & Retention:
- Foster a positive and inclusive volunteer culture through regular feedback, communication, and recognition.

Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience in volunteer management or community engagement is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
- Experience with volunteer management software or databases is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of best practices in volunteer management, including recruitment, retention, and recognition.
- Passion for adult literacy (broadly defined) and love for reading is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in event planning and coordination.

JOB TITLE: Early Childhood TESOL Education Intern

We currently offer a total of ten different English language learning communities/approximately 150 learners per week. We currently have three different learning sites: ELL classes at downtown Learning Center; Women & Children Classes at St. Andrew Church; as well as workplace literacy classes at Amcor and 4imprint in Oshkosh.
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Early Childhood TESOL Education Intern will assist with the children at WALC Women & Children Program at St. Andrew Church in Oshkosh. This program allows mothers to focus on their learning while their children are cared for by volunteers. We are looking for an intern to assist Women & Children Program Lead in providing enrichment, implement activities, and encourage English speaking among the young children.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Assist in children’s class
- Implement English language enrichment activities for children aged 0-5 years
- Collaborate with volunteers in the support of the children
A GOOD FIT FOR THIS ROLE HAS/IS:
- An interest and/or experience with Early Childhood Education
- Current college junior or senior majoring in Childhood Education and/or TESOL Education
- Passion and enthusiasm to support immigrant community members
- Must be available from 12 pm to 2 pm on Tues/Thurs (our Women & Children Classes take place on those days at St. Andrew Church in Oshkosh)
