WALC Featured on Wisconsin Public Radio

Last week, Wisconsin Public Radio aired a story focused on WALC and the impact of our work with immigrants and refugees in the Oshkosh area. The piece highlighted how language learning is about more than English, it is about belonging and hope.

The story began with WALC Executive Director, Dr. Chu May Paing, sharing more on her journey after winning the Green Card Lottery and moving to New York at only 19. Dr. Chu spoke on the challenges that she, like many, face – from navigating a new language to finding community and stability.

WPR also spoke with WALC learner, Olena Tkachenko, who came to Oshkosh through the Uniting for Ukraine (U4U) program. Olena shared her experience in Ukraine, and the journey that brought her to Oshkosh, and to WALC where she has been attending English classes and in our Road to Work program.
