Rainu grew up in Kuwait to Indian parents, in a community that was primarily Indian and consisted of a wide range of languages and socio-religious backgrounds. Rainu’s father had a 10th-grade education and was a radio technician. Rainu’s mother, a 6th-grade education, but even so knew the value of education, and 5 of her 6 children have college degrees.

Rainu came to the US for college and graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering and MS in Computer Science. Rainu married and settled in the suburbs of Chicago, raising a son and daughter there, who are both engineers as well. A career in Software Engineering allowed Rainu to work in high-tech industries developing test equipment, cell phones, maps for autonomous driving and now telematics for trucks at Oshkosh Corporation.

Rainu enjoys solving problems and building products that improve the lives of people, and is a Project Management Professional who enjoys continuous improvement and developing high-performance teams. Rainu speaks Hindi and Urdu.

What does literacy mean to you?

Literacy means the ability to communicate and learn about the world around me. It leads to self sufficiency and empowers the individual to be their best if they choose to. For myself and my family, literacy was a ticket out of poverty.
